The Red Sox bolstered their pitching staff with three signings recently, with each pitcher arriving after spending much of 2008 with arm trouble. Former Atlanta Braves ace John Smoltz signed a one-year, $5.5 million deal with Boston, though incentives could bring it all the way up to $10 million. Smoltz was limited to six appearances in 2008 after having right shoulder surgery and might not be pitching until May or June this season.
