Michael Sheen

Best Actor for “Frost/Nixon” Sheen, a Welsh actor, has received plaudits from theater critics since his professional debut in 1991. But it wasn't until his performance as Tony Blair in “The Queen” (2006) that he caught the attention of film critics, if not the Academy itself. Afterwards, he immersed himself in his next role, that of the British playboy/TV personality David Frost, opposite Frank Langella in the stage version of “Frost/Nixon.” Langella won a Tony and Sheen was snubbed, but both men were asked by Ron Howard to reprise their roles in the big screen adaptation. There’s every reason to believe that hundreds of rehearsals have prepared them well. Age on Nomination Day: 40 Did You Know? Sheen’s “Underworld” co-star was Kate Beckinsale, his girlfriend at the time (they have since split) and the mother of his child. Ralph Nelson / Universal Pictures
