Normally, Oscar voters pay attention to Robert Redford movies ("Ordinary People," "Quiz Show"). "Lions for Lambs" starred three-time Oscar nominee Tom Cruise and two-time Oscar winner (14 nominations) Meryl Streep, so early Oscar expectations were high.
But Redford's $35-million war drama earned only $15 million in U.S. theaters. It received not a single award, but many bad reviews. -- Hey, Jude!
