Edward Zwick (Oscar winner for producing best picture winner "Shakespeare in Love") directed <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB001209" title="Tom Cruise" href="/topic/entertainment/movies/tom-cruise-PECLB001209.topic">Tom Cruise</a> as a Civil War veteran in Japan during the beginning of modernization.
