Thubten Jigme Norbu

Thubten Jigme Norbu, the eldest brother of the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB002899" title="Dalai Lama" href="/topic/religion-belief/buddhism/dalai-lama-PECLB002899.topic">Dalai Lama</a>, pressed for his country’s independence. He fled his homeland in 1950. He taught Tibetan studies at <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="OREDU0000040" title="Indiana University" href="/topic/education/colleges-universities/indiana-university-OREDU0000040.topic">Indiana University</a> and established a Tibetan cultural center.
