2001: Shelby Lynne

Verdict: I know what you’re thinking, “Shelby who?” Lynne was more of a critical darling than a celebrity when she won for her album “I Am Shelby Lynne.” Lynne was never able to capitalize on the recognition commercially; she has continued to receive critical recognition for her work since. Some might argue Jill Scott should have gone home with some metal but either way, at least it wasn’t Sisqo. Still a critic's darling: Not cursed.
