Based as it is on a popular novel with a built-in audience, one might think “The Kite Runner” would have an easy, or at least worry-free, translation to the big screen. Not so. Advance word of the film’s depiction of a child rape scene created an uproar in Afghanistan before the release. Four young, nonprofessional actors had to be spirited out of Kabul to safety.
