Zac Efron

Zac Efron was the first of the group to venture out of the “High School Musical” cocoon — landing the role of Link Larkin in New Line’s 2007 summer hit “Hairspray.”

Efron held his own against heavyweights John Travolta and Michelle Pfeiffer, but he was on familiar turf playing a dancing, singing, teenage television star.

This summer we’ll find out whether he can carry a nonmusical film when he stars with Matthew Perry and Leslie Mann in “Seventeen Again,” in which he plays a fortysomething trapped in a 17-year-old’s body.
Report card sum-up: B-plus. Decent success so far, but we’re curious to see this young man move out of the comfort zone.
