Depression-era landmarks in Southern California: Griffith Observatory

Griffith Observatory, 2800 E. Observatory Road, Los Angeles; (213) 473-0800. “The hood ornament of Los Angeles” (that’s the phrase of director E.C. Krupp) opened in May 1935. It looms on a ridge above Griffith Park, looking down on Hollywood and up at the stars. Related story: "Exploring the Depression's artistic legacy in San Francisco" An aerial view of the observatory.
