A God among preteens, Zac Efron catapulted to stardom as popular guy Troy Bolton in the "High School Musical" franchise. His stint on the WB's "Summerland" TV show along with follow-up projects like "Hairspray" and " 17 Again" cemented his spot among teen heartthrobs.
Navigating away from traditional adolescent roles, Efron landed the lead part in "Me and Orson Welles," a 1937 period piece directed by Richard Linklater ("Dazed and Confused," "Before Sunrise"). While the role itself sounds familiar -- Efron plays a young actor in the Broadway debut of "Julius Caesar" -- the departure is in the tone and sophistication of the film.
