Dominique de Villepin and Nicolas Sarkozy

A file photograph shows now-French President Nicolas Sarkozy, right, speaking with then-Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin during a political party event in Paris. The Paris public prosecutor on Oct. 20, 2009, demanded that De Villepin be found guilty of helping to falsely connect Sarkozy with alleged corruption and that he be handed a suspended sentence of 18 months in prison. The prosecutor also asked that De Villepin be found guilty of complicity in libel and be fined more than $67,000.
