But he was also a loving father of three sons: Sonny (James Caan), Fredo (John Cazale) and Michael (Al Pacino). The best scenes in the Oscar-winning best film are between Vito and Michael -- when Michael comes to see the Don in the hospital and realizes his father's life is in danger and when the aging Vito is talking to Michael in the garden just before he dies of a heart attack.
