As night settles in, spotlights illuminate rows of columns at the Temple of Luxor. Modern-day Luxor sits on the site of ancient Thebes, Egypt’s capital during the New Kingdom. Luxor is often called the “world’s greatest open-air museum” because of its proximity to ancient temples and the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens.
