The Brave One

By Sheigh Crabtree and Patrick Day, Los Angeles Times Staff Writers "You've come a long way, baby." So went the ad slogan for Virginia Slims cigarettes in the 1960s, which celebrated the idea that women could be just as addicted to hacking their lungs out as men. And now they've achieved another pop cultural milestone: the preponderance of the female vigilante. Gone are the days where old coots like Charles Bronson and Clint Eastwood cornered the market on meting out justice. Now, more and more, the ladies are getting their turn to get even with those who done them wrong. Keep an eye out soon for the next stage of pop cultural equality: half-naked boys getting hacked to death by hulking, unstoppable women killers.
