Bono as The Fly, Mr. MacPhisto and Mirror Ball Man

Eager to shake up its image as "earnest rockers," U2 reinvented itself on its 1992 Zoo TV tour with a wildly elaborate set and over-the-top ironic commentary on late capitalism. In this pursuit, Bono played out multiple personalities onstage. "The Fly" was a swaggering parody of rockstardom, complete with wraparound sunglasses, "Mr. MacPhisto" played on Faust's devil, and the "Mirror Ball Man," made nightly attempts to call then-President George H.W. Bush from onstage.
