In 1977, the Norman Rockefeller Collection offered reproductions of furnishings from the millionaire's Manhattan residence decorated in 1936 by Jean-Michel Frank. The famed French interior designer worked with artists such as Henri Matisse and Fernand Leger to create decorative objects for the apartment. Among the reproductions were these gilded bronze andirons, which bear the unmistakable sculptural forms of Alberto and Diego Giacometti. The estimate was $4,000 to $6,000, but the lot was withdrawn from the auction just prior to the sale.
