Aspen, Colo.

Culture meets carnival at the ski town of Aspen's Fourth of July celebrations. Activities include the 5-mile Boogie's Buddy Race ($40 to $50 to enter), an America's Birthday Carnival for kids at 10 a.m. and an old-fashioned Fourth of July Parade on Main Street at noon. The Aspen Art Museum hosts a post-parade picnic at 1:30 p.m. and there's a free Journey Stories exhibition at the Aspen Fire Station Museum from 4 to 9 p.m. No fireworks this year because of fire danger, but the evening brings Dancing in the Streets from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Info: Aspen4th.com
