The Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland

Why we chose it: If you want an escape from driving, why would you put yourself in a driving vacation? Because these 1,500 miles of coastline are meant to be savored slowly, from County Cork to County Donegal, including County Clare, pictured here. You don't have to do the entire coastline, either. National Geographic chose the Atlantic drive as one of its top spring trips.

Potential drawbacks: National Geographic also notes that some road signs in rural areas are written in Irish so you'll have to brush up a bit before you embark.
