The hotel, named after the third president of the United States, is distinguished by a $12,000 Jefferson statue in its courtyard and the many well-known guests who have stayed there, including actress Sarah Bernhardt, actor Charlie Chaplin and singers Ray Charles and Frank Sinatra. It is also affectionately remembered for the alligators that once lived in its marble pools. Old Pompey, the last resident gator, died in 1948. Rooms start at $235 a night.
