Australian Open champ Li Na is eliminated in third round at Wimbledon

Wimbledon second-seed Li Na falls to Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5), in the third round

Li Na became the victim of the first major upset at Wimbledon on Friday.

The Australian Open champion and second seed blew a set point in the second set on her way to being bounced by Barbora Zahlavova Strycova of the Czech Republic, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5), in the third round.

Li, of China, has advanced to the Wimbledon quarterfinals three times.

Also on Friday, Novak Djokovic of Serbia survived a scary fall to defeat Giles Simon of France, 6-4, 6-2, 6-4.

Djokovic, the top seed in the men's bracket, grimaced in pain and grabbed his upper left arm after falling hard to the grass while lunging for a forehand shot.

He was able to continue after receiving medical treatment.

“It was a sharp pain,” said Djokovic, who was leading, 3-2, in the third set at the time of the injury. “It was an awkward fall. I was just hoping there is nothing really bad with the joint. Luckily there is nothing damaged. I could play. Just the muscle was quite sore because of the impact. All in all I'm just glad to get through.”
