Jagr played on the Czech team that won the gold medal in 1998, the first tournament in which NHL players were allowed to represent their homelands. He also won bronze in 2006.
The Czech team had the luxury of choosing a number of NHL players. Goalie Ondrej Pavelec of Winnipeg was selected, as were defensemen Ladislav Smid of Calgary, Michal Rozsival of Chicago, Marek Zidlicky of New Jersey and Radko Gudas of Tampa Bay. Former NHL player Tomas Kaberle, now playing for Kladno in the Czech Republic, also was chosen.
The forwards will include 37-year-old Patrik Elias of New Jersey, Michael Frolik of Winnipeg, Ales Hemsky of Edmonton, David Krejci of Boston, Tomas Plekanec of Montreal, Vladimir Sobotka of St. Louis and Jakub Voracek of Philadelphia.
