The veteran shooting guard has agreed to a three-year, $19.5-million contract with the Detroit Pistons.
Yahoo Sports first reported Meeks' agreement with Detroit.
Meeks earned $1.65 million with the Lakers this past season, averaging 15.7 points in 77 games. He hit career highs in efficiency, shooting 46.3% from the field and 40.1% from three-point range.
The Pistons, badly in need out outside shooting, will pay Meeks approximately $6.3 million for the 2014-15 season.
Meeks' best performance as a Laker was in March, when he scored 42 points to help the Lakers upset the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Lakers lose one of last year's bright spots -- but then that squad won just 27 games.
In fact, most players on that roster are now unrestricted free agents, including Pau Gasol, Jordan Hill, Chris Kaman, Nick Young, Jordan Farmar, Kent Bazemore, Wesley Johnson, Xavier Henry and MarShon Brooks.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
