Paolo Soleri

A former apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright, the Italian-born architect created a visionary prototype for a new kind of ecologically sensitive city in the remote Arizona desert, called Arcosanti, in 1970. Though Arcosanti never exactly flourished, Soleri's philosophy is echoed in today's green architecture. He was 93. Full obituary Notable deaths of 2012
