Shadows

Los Angeles Times Reader Photo of the Day: Shadows in downtown L.A.

At the risk of generalizing, I would say most people imagine photographs have to be crisp, clean images, always in focus. That's why we have auto-focus, fast films and high shutter speeds, right?

Sometimes an image can do just as well to convey a mood by being dark, grainy and out of focus. That's exactly what David Ingraham did in this image of the corner of 7th and Flower streets in downtown Los Angeles, right outside the Metro station.

Ingraham used an iPhone 4s to make the image.
