At least one high school student in San Bernardino County could be charged with a crime after photos of nude juvenile girls ended up on social media, police said.
Detectives are investigating how nude photos of four girls -– at least two are juveniles –- were reportedly spread on Twitter by a high school student.
“It appears that the females took the pictures of themselves and sent them to the male who allegedly may have shared the photos,” said San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Cindy Bachman.
The male is a student at Etiwanda High School, according to local media reports. The girls who have been identified attend Rancho Cucamonga High School. Detectives said the photos were put on Twitter on Monday and school resource officers were alerted to the photos Wednesday.
Police are first checking if the boy sent them out on his Twitter account, or if the account was hacked. If it was the student, he could face charges of distributing obscene matter or child porngraphy, police said. The girls could also face prosecution for sending out the photos of themselves because they are minors and it is considered child pornography, sheriff's officials said.
