The Cold Spring Arch Bridge was built in 1963 along Highway 154. Since that time 44 people have jumped off the bridge to their deaths. Santa Barbara County Sheriffs Cmdr. Dominick Palera, left, and suicide prevention specialist Dr. Lisa Firestone are among those advocating the addition of 10-foot-high suicide barriers to the steel span.
