Palos Verdes Blue Butterflies

Newly emerged Palos Verdes blue butterflies rest in their cage at Moorpark College in Ventura County, Calif., where the endangered species is being bred in captivity for release in the wild. In recent days, 2,400 blues have emerged at the college's laboratory, three times more than forecast. And with a life span of only three to 38 days, the pressure is on to find appropriate release sites.
