'Popeye the Sailor' TV series out from Warner Archive

In the late 1950s, TV began rerunning the classic Fleischer / Famous Studios "Popeye" theatrical shorts that were made between 1933 and 1957. They proved so popular with kids, King Features resurrected the spinach-loving Popeye for a new TV series from executive producer Al Brodax. The series, "Popeye the Sailor," aired on ABC from 1960-62. Though the series was done fast in the scaled-back, limited animation style of the Hanna-Barbera cartoons, "Popeye" used the same voice actors for the leads, including Jack Mercer as Popeye and Mae Questel.Warner Archive just released the 72 episodes of the series on a two-disc set.
