-- Los Angeles Times Staff Writers Eight smaller 2009 models were recently tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) on front, side and rear crashes (simulated by what could be a tall SUV or truck). The Mini Cooper was the only "micro-car" of the bunch and it fared pretty well, although the side impact was rated only "Average."
