Kirkwood Community College in Iowa said in April that a month earlier hackers had accessed names, birth dates, race, contact information and Social Security numbers for 125,000 applicants to the college. The applications spanned a period of eight years. The school said the attack originated from an international IP address. Above, Victoria Kaestner, then a senior at Wilson High School in Long Beach, works on her college applications in the career center on the school's campus in 2010.
