Gladiator School in Rome

Giulia Mazzoli, left, and Michele D'Orazio stage a fight. Mazzoli first got involved with gladiator re-creations by joining a group of women who dressed up as Roman matrons, or upper-class housewives. But she quickly transitioned into sword-wielding. “Being a matron was boring,” she says. “This requires discipline, passion, responsibility.”
