'Poltergeist' (1982)

In this Oscar-nominated thriller, a family living in a house in the suburbs (which are, not coincidentally, built on top of an Indian burial ground) begins noticing furniture moving on its own, glasses breaking spontaneously and other strange occurrences. Then, in a horrifying night, the family is attacked by a poltergeist, and their youngest daughter Carol Anne is sucked through a portal in her closet. Carol Anne's parents, played by Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams, consult with all sorts of paranormal experts in an effort to retrieve their daughter, including a very spooky medium, famously portrayed by <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB000005077" title="Zelda Rubinstein" href="/topic/entertainment/zelda-rubinstein-PECLB000005077.topic">Zelda Rubinstein</a>.
