Lil Wayne and Drake have thrown their names into the running for most anticipated joint tour.
In a summer that will see Beyonce team with Jay Z and Eminem join Rihanna in co-headlining outings, the Young Money leader and his most valuable player will hit the road together, they announced on Thursday.
The Drake vs. Lil Wayne Tour will take the two to amphitheaters across the U.S. this summer and fall.
The 36-date trek starts Aug. 8 in Darien Center and wraps Sept. 28 in Houston.
Drake and Lil Wayne will stop at the Hollywood Bowl for a two-night stint of shows on Sept. 22-23.
[UPDATED: 12:00 p.m.] Live Nation only announced 31 dates of the tour in Thursday’s press release. Additional dates, including a second night at Hollywood Bowl, are expected to be announced depending on sales.
In the years since Wayne used his 2009 Americas Most Wanted tour to show off the then-rising Canadian rapper-singer, Drake has achieved enough multiplatinum crossover success to rival his mentor.
It will be the second tour this year for Drake. Earlier this year he wrapped his critically lauded Would You Like a Tour? arena run that played to sold-out crowds across North America and Europe.
Drake will also anchor the fifth year of his annual OVO Fest in Toronto on Aug. 4.
Lil Wayne is hard at work on “Tha Carter V,” which he has said will be his final album. Drake, who appears on Wayne’s current hit “Believe Me,” will serve as executive producer on the project.
Tickets will begin going on sale June 20 through Ticketmaster, with presales starting June 17.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
