It’s here! The first major awards show of the year has arrived. Of course, we’re talking the Golden Globes.
Broadcasting live at 5 p.m. PT (8 p.m. ET) Sunday on NBC from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, the 71st Golden Globes will recognize excellence in film and television in the year 2013.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. (HFPA) takes the helm, as it is the one that bestows the shiny accolades upon Tinseltown’s best. So who are the voters that make up this association? We have all the details here. Hint: A large chunk of them come from Europe. Ooh la la.
With accolades come stars. Lots of stars. In gowns, in tuxedos, in … fluffy ballerina tutus and satin lace-ups? Lara Flynn Boyle, here’s looking at you. Well, while the clothes don’t make the (wo)man, the awards sure do. Or at least a little.
We have the complete list of nominees, from directors and supporting actors to foreign language films and original scores. Specifically, historical drama "12 Years a Slave" and con-artist comedy "American Hustle" lead the motion picture nominations with seven nods each. As for television, political drama “House of Cards” and Liberace biopic “Behind the Candelabra” lead with four nods apiece.
Feel like looking at more of a visual rundown of the complete list? Take a look at our photo gallery of top nominees.
And while you’re on the visual path, click through our other photo gallery to see how the stars reacted to their nominations. See: Just got out of bed, and my publicist called me with the news. Woo hoo!
Speaking of reactions – be they sarcastic or sweet – funny ladies Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will have a ton up their sleeve. The pair will reprise their roles as hosts of this year’s Golden Globes. They’re not the only dynamic duo Hollywood has to offer. Check out our photo gallery spotlighting other pairs who’ve taken the stage together.
Every host is always joined by presenters, right? This year, the HFPA whipped up a hefty roll call of them, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Downey Jr., Naomi Watts and Mila Kunis. Oh, and Jennifer Lawrence. See photos of all Golden Globes presenters here, with a special treat: The images are portraits taken by The Times.
And, hey, it’s a big stage, so the hosts and presenters can make room for one more. Enter Miss Golden Globe. Sosie Bacon, daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, has the honor this year. Each year, a different daughter (or son) of a famous couple holds the title. Take a look through our photo gallery to see the past Miss Golden Globes through the years.
It looks like not everyone wants to appear on stage. Director du jour Woody Allen belongs in that category. The 78-year-old “Blue Jasmine” director has been bestowed with the Golden Globes’ lifetime achievement award, but rejects the idea that he's had influence on other filmmakers. To accept the prize on his behalf is Diane Keaton, who earned a Golden Globe and an Oscar for her role in Allen’s “Annie Hall.”
And is it just killing you to see which awards the nominees will accept? Look no further than the Golden Globes edition of our play-at-home ballot. Cast your votes now, and see how you fare.
Don’t forget to check back during and after the show to see up-the-moment coverage of the Golden Globes, including red carpet arrivals, show highlights and the juicy bits the stars had to say backstage. (Shhh, we’ll never tell!)
