'Full House' star Dave Coulier says he started rumor that Alanis Morissette wrote 'You Oughta Know' about him

Alanis Morissette's 1995 hit "You Oughta Know" isn't about her ex Dave Coulier, according to the "Full House" alum.

While the amiable Uncle Joey has long been believed to be the subject of the Grammy-winning vitriol-filled ballad, he recently fessed up that he was the one who started the "urban legend" during a red carpet interview.

Cut. It. Out., right?!

"I dated Alanis in 1992. You know, it's just funny to be the supposed subject of that song," the "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" star said in a BuzzFeed interview.

"First of all, the guy in that song is a real ... , so I don't want to be that guy. Secondly, I asked Alanis, 'I'm getting calls by the media and they want to know who this guy is.' And she said, 'Well, you know it could be a bunch of people. But you can say whatever you want.'

"So one time, I was doing a red carpet somewhere and [the press] just wore me down and everybody wanted to know so I said, 'Yeah, all right, I'm the guy. There I said it.' So then it became a snowball effect of, OH! So you are the guy!'"

And that, friends, is how rumors start.

"It's just become this silly urban legend that I just have to laugh at," the comedian added.

Incidentally, "Watch What Happens Live" host Andy Cohen inquired about the subject in January and Coulier and his "Full House" costars Bob Saget and John Stamos only fanned the flame.

"Did she really bug you in the middle of dinner," Cohen faux-sang in Morissette's whining tone.

"She still does," Coulier quipped, taking a drink. Saget then volunteered the information that he was at Coulier's house when the alleged interruption occurred.

"You have to know this," Saget said. "I was at his house and he said, 'Alanis just hung up on me and said, 'Sorry for calling you during dinner.' ... I was at his house when she said that to him."

So was it true? Perhaps, that's the makings of a whole 'nother song.
