Prinze began his career as a stand-up comedian before starring as Francisco "Chico" Rodriguez in the NBC TV series "Chico and the Man." The show was an instant success that placed the Hungarian-Puerto Rican star on the road to mega stardom. In October 1975 Prinze married Katherine Cochran with whom he had a son, Freddie Prinze Jr. The marriage was short lived, apparently ending over Prinze's struggles with drug abuse. Prinze was 22 when he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound with a medium-caliber automatic pistol in 1977.
