Thank Asia for growth in pay TV.
Global pay TV subscribing households are projected to increase to about 1 billion by 2018, an increase of about 30% from 772 million in 2012, according to Digital TV Research.
Based on the firm's forecast for 97 countries, the Asia Pacific region will contribute 59% of the global total by the end of 2018.
The region could contribute 587 million subscribers, a 36% increase from 2012.
China will have the most subscriptions, at 313 million, up 34% from last year, according to Digital TV analyst Simon Murray, who established the firm in 2011.
India, increasing 35% to 158 million, will have the second-most subscribing households.
Following India, the United States is projected to reach 107 million, an increase of 6.6% from 2012.
The other countries in the Top 10 include Russia, Brazil, Japan, Germany, Mexico, South Korea and the United Kingdom.
Pay TV penetration, the percentage of TV households that have a subscription, could rise to 63% globally by 2018, compared with 54 percent last year.
