'Captain Phillips' tops DVD sales chart in debut

The Somali pirate hijacking drama "Captain Phillips" has commandeered the home video market.

The Tom Hanks film, directed by Paul Greengrass, was the bestselling DVD and Blu-ray title in its first week in release, according to Rentrak.

"Captain Phillips" is nominated for six Academy Awards, including best picture, and has generated $217 million in worldwide ticket sales.

Also debuting were the critically panned action picture "Machete Kills," about a man hired to take on a billionaire arms dealer, and the PG-13 bilingual comedy "Instructions Not Included."

"Machete Kills," which bombed at the box office, ranked No. 4 for the week in DVD and Blu-ray sales, while "Instructions Not Included," debuted at No. 5.
