'Venus in Fur' and 'Zealot' are heading to South Coast Repertory

David Ives' 'Venus in Fur,' Theresa Rebeck's 'Zealot' lead South Coast Repertory's 2014-15 lineup

"Venus in Fur" by David Ives and "Zealot" by Theresa Rebeck will be among the new and recent stage works presented by Costa Mesa's South Coast Repertory in its upcoming season, which was announced Monday.

The 2014-15 lineup will also include a production of Shakespeare's "The Tempest," co-directed by the illusionist Teller; Melissa Ross' "Of Good Stock" and Rajiv Joseph's  "Mr. Wolf." The plays by Rebeck, Ross and Joseph were seen at this year's Pacific Playwrights Festival.

"The Tempest" (Aug. 29 to Sept. 28) is a co-production with American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Mass., where the production recently opened. Adapted and directed by Teller and Aaron Posner, the staging includes choreography by Pilobolus' Matt Kent and songs by Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan.

Ives' "Venus in Fur" (Oct. 5 to 26) will be directed by Casey Stangl, who recently staged the two-hander play for American Conservatory Theater. Ives debuted his play -- about an actress and director locking horns during an audition -- at New York's Classic Stage Co. before it transferred to Broadway in 2011.

A big-screen adaptation directed by Roman Polanski is scheduled to open in L.A. on July 4.

Rebeck's "Zealot" (Oct. 17 to Nov. 16) tells the story of a tense diplomatic situation in a British consulate in the Middle East. "Of Good Stock" will run from March 27 to April 26, 2015, and "Mr. Wolf" will play April 12 to May 3, 2015.

The season will also include a production of "Peter and the Starcatcher" (May 8 to June 7, 2015); Matthew Lopez's "The Whipping Man" (Jan. 4 to 25, 2015); and "Tristan & Yseult" (Jan. 23 to Feb. 22, 2015), a production from England's Kneehigh Theatre.

An additional production running March 8 to 29, 2015 will be announced later.
