It was a VIP guest list that few Broadway productions could dream of.
Former President Clinton and former secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton paid a visit Tuesday to "Ann," the one-woman biographical play about former Texas Gov. Ann Richards that is running on Broadway.
"Ann" stars Holland Taylor as Richards, the tough-talking, liberal politician who became governor of Texas in 1991. The actress tweeted on Tuesday: "Proud night at ANN. President Clinton, Secy. of State Clinton Rep. Gabby Giffords -and, gasp, Meryl Streep - at show."
Richards only served one term as governor; she was defeated in 1994 by George W. Bush. Famous for her white hair and sharp tongue, Richards memorably declared at the 1988 Democratic National Convention that George H.W. Bush was "born with a silver foot in his mouth."
This isn't the first Broadway show attended by Bill Clinton. The former president attended "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" in 2011.
"Ann" features a scene where Richards chats on the phone with Clinton, who was the president at the time she was governor. Clinton was a friend of Richards and spoke at a memorial service for her after her death in 2006 at 73.
