Roland Burris

Despite the loss in the 1984 Senate primary, Burris continued his political career and ran for state attorney general in 1990. Here, he and his wife, Berlean, leave their Chicago polling place after voting. Burris won, becoming only the second African American in the nation to be elected to the office of attorney general.
