The differences between Don and Megan were best illustrated on a fact-finding "work" trip to a particular orange-roofed inn. "I love Howard Johnson's!" Don enthused. In 1966, America agreed. Megan's not usually a wet blanket, but her skeptical response ("It's not a destination. It's on the way to someplace") pretty well captures the generational shift that would soon doom the iconic roadway restaurant/motel chain. But, man, how great was it seeing that orange A-frame roof again?
