JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Gov. Jay Nixon this week visited Missouri troops who are deployed to Kuwait and Afghanistan. Nixon says the trip started in Washington, D.C., and included meetings with military leaders and a visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The governor then traveled to Kuwait and then Afghanistan.
This is Nixon's third trip to the war zone since taking office. He also traveled to Iraq and Afghanistan in 2009 and 2010.
Nixon says it is important to recognize Missourians who have put themselves at risk for the state and country. He called their service "personally inspiring."
Nixon has remained in contact with his office and did not transfer gubernatorial authority. It was unclear when Nixon is returning to Missouri.
