OMAHA, Neb. -- No. 17 Creighton 91, Missouri State 77: All-American Doug McDermott scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and the hot-shooting Bluejays sank 15 3-pointers in cruising past the visiting Bears.
Guard Austin Chatman added 14 points and 10 assists and Ethan Wragge (15) and Grant Gibbs (10) also scored in double figures for Creighton (19-3, 8-2 MVC), which won its second straight game following a three-game losing streak.
Freshman forward Drew Wilson scored 19 points and Gavin Thurman added 14 points for Missouri State (6-16, 4-6), which lost despite shooting 54.7 percent from the floor and hitting 11-of-20 from 3-point range.
Missouri State, which had won six of the previous eight meetings with Creighton, was competitive early and trailed 32-24 with 6:12 left in the first half after a jumper by Michael Simpson. But Creighton answered with a 13-8 run to go up 45-32 at halftime, and pulled away to lead by as many as 24 midway through the second half.
McDermott, a 6-8 junior who didn't play the final six minutes, became the first player in the history of the 10-year-old CenturyLink Center in Omaha to score 1,000 career points. He now has 1,001 heading into Saturday afternoon's game with Bradley.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Bluejays swept the regular season series with the Bears for the first time since the 2008-09 season. ... Creighton, which came into the contest leading the nation in 3-point shooting (44.8 percent), connected on 15-of-28 attempts beyond the arc (53.6 percent). ...
