A single engine Piper aircraft crash-landed in Tuolumne County on Saturday afternoon.
The pilot, Otis Russell Johnson, sustained minor injuries and managed to use his cell phone to call for help. A California Highway Patrol helicopter found Johnson's airplane and transported the pilot to Auburn airport.
Despite the fact that the airplane was seriously damaged, Johnson was lucky it did not explode. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the crash.
The airplane landed near the intersection of Forestry roads 5N02 and 5N83.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
