Authorities: Rocklin Fire Started Near Police Chase

A fire that started near West Sunset Boulevard in Roseville prompted the evacuations of some businesses around lunchtime Wednesday afternoon.

The sixty-acre vegetation fire is now fully contained, according to fire officials. The fire caused some power outages for 4,400 electric customers, including the entire Roseville Galleria mall.

The fire was reportedly started after Roseville Police engaged in a pursuit with a grand theft suspect. The suspect drove into an open field area near where the fire started. Authorities are investigating a potential link between the police chase and the fire, but the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Eyewitnesses from as far as Sacramento reported seeing heavy, thick grey smoke billowing into the air.
