The architect of Power Balance Arena says the building could be renovated.
Until now, renovation was said to have been impossible even though no one ever asked Rann Haight, the building’s architect.
“I can tell you that we’ve never be asked (if renovation was possible). The structural engineer and the architect were never consulted,” Haight told FOX40.
One of the questions raised about renovating the arena was whether or not the building’s steel structure was adequate. Haight says the base of Power Balance Pavilion, formerly ARCO Arena, is more than able to support the renovation plan.
The current plan starts outside the building. Haight proposes that the building expands outward, with the only limitations being the property lines. The closest property line is between 200 and 300 yards away, according to Haight.
Interior space would be freed up by moving kitchens and restrooms to the new outer areas. A new upper deck of seats would sit atop a club level, which would feature restaurants.
Wednesday night, on FOX40 News at 10, see what’s planned for a facelift on the building’s exterior, the issue of the flood plain and how much the renovation could cost.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
