Son Pleads Not Guilty To Running Over Father With SUV

SYLMAR, Calif. (KTLA) -- A wheelchair-bound man has pleaded not guilty to murder charges Friday after police say he intentionally ran over his own father with a sport utility vehicle.

Martin Martinez, 26, is charged with murder and attempted murder after getting into an SUV Tuesday night and driving over his 62-year-old father, Francisco Martinez.

According to LAPD officials, it all started with a fight around 8 p.m. between several adult brothers who live at the home on the 13000 block of Bradley Avenue. They were apparently arguing over a lost dog and a broken door inside the house.

Martinez, who is wheelchair-bound, allegedly hopped a curb and knocked down a brick mailbox before striking one of his brothers and pinning his father under the vehicle. Francisco Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured brother was in serious but stable condition at a local hospital, police said.

"He ain't my brother no more," the suspect's brother, Jesus Martinez, told reporters on Wednesday. "There's something wrong with him."

Martinez is being held on $1 million bail. He is due back in court on June 22.
