GLENDORA (KTLA) -- A man is in critical condition Sunday after a wild shootout with police at a Ralph's grocery store in Glendora.

Officers approached a man around 10 p.m. in the parking lot of the grocery store at 655 South Grand Avenue.

They believed he may have been connected to an armed robbery at a Kohl's department store in the mall earlier in the day.

According to the Glendora Police department, that's when the man became combative and began opening fire on officers.

Customers watched as he continued to shoot as he ran into the grocery store and took refuge behind a cash register.

"Luckily nobody was injured in the exchange of gunfire - nobody was hit except the suspect," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. John Corin said.

The suspect, only identified as a 29-year-old parolee, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

No officers were hurt.

Investigators are still on the scene.
