Bloomsday at The Buttonwood Tree in Middletown

Greater Hartford's take on Bloomsday, an annual celebration of Leopold Bloom's daylong stroll in 1904 across Dublin in James Joyce's Ulysses, takes place at the Buttonwood in Middletown, dubbed “the little Dublin of Connecticut” for the occasion. Slogging through Joyce is a rite of a passage, a way to separate literati from the merely literate. But it doesn't have to be painful. So dress in Edwardian garb, surround yourself with other gorgonzola sandwich-toting aspirants, and listen to some traditional Irish music (supplied by Full Gael). In other words, do it right.
